This private tour of Portofino and Santa Margherita Ligure is a full day away from La Spezia, with a local guide and a journey that is part of the pleasure. It starts at the station or the port, and a train of about an hour follows the coast.
In Santa Margherita Ligure the guide leads you through the historic centre and its Liberty-style villas, then to Villa Durazzo and its gardens above the gulf. Free time follows, for a coffee, some shopping or a snack of local focaccia.
A boat ride of about 30 minutes then carries you to Portofino, where the guide shows you the famous piazzetta and the harbour before you are free to wander and have lunch at your own expense. The return is by boat to Santa Margherita and by train to La Spezia.
