Description
This Vernazza walk and wine tasting begins on foot, in the narrow alleys, small squares and old landmarks of one of the best-known villages in the Cinque Terre National Park. Your guide explains how Vernazza began in the Middle Ages, how it has always looked to the sea and which families have shaped the place.
Along the way you hear about the steep terraces around the village: how dry-stone walls were built and kept up over the centuries, why this is called heroic viticulture, and what it takes to grow grapes on cliffs above the Ligurian Sea.
- A guided walk through Vernazza
- Stories of local history and culture
- A guided tasting of Eroico wines made by a local family
- A visit to a recently restored historic wine cellar
The finale takes place in that cellar, in the middle of the village. Here you taste the Eroico wines and hear about local grape varieties, traditional winemaking and the work being done to protect the landscape.
The tour lasts around an hour and a half. Comfortable shoes are a good idea, because the streets are narrow and some stretches are steep. Children under 18 cannot join.
