Description

The Church of Sant'Andrea has been described as a "modest container" because, in fact, the external structure is certainly not of great value. But it is the interior that compensates for this "modesty." There was once a Madonna and Child from the 14th century in marble, now transferred to the Diocesan Museum. In the church, there are at least three noteworthy paintings, two on canvas and one on slate. Recently, a canvas of Saint Helena was restored, the origin of which in the church is unknown. It measures 155 × 115 centimeters, a very thin canvas, with an ancient gilded leaf frame, attributable to Francesco Guarino, (1611, 1654), considered one of the protagonists of the Neapolitan school of the 17th century. Finally, the Church of Sant'Andrea is to be remembered because it houses the statue of the Madonna dell'Olmo, which is carried, on the second Sunday of May, on a pilgrimage to the nearby Sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Olmo, which is reached by climbing a path of steps on Mount Santa Croce.
