Palazzo Boletto is a large Art Nouveau palazzo in the center of La Spezia, built in 1927 to a design by the architect Vincenzo Bacigalupi. It closes off its square on the sea side and is worth a look for its richly decorated facades.
The building's mass is compact and balanced, but the facades bring it to life with a dense series of balconies, moldings and sculptural elements, each designed differently: it is worth taking your time to look up.
In 1933 the palazzo grew: Bacigalupi himself added the block on the east side. These were the years when La Spezia, a provincial capital since 1923, was filling up with new buildings. Bacigalupi, who also designed the Teatro Trianon, created several of the city's early 20th-century palazzi.
