Palazzo De Nobili, or more properly Oldoini De Nobili, is the gray-and-red Baroque palazzo on Piazza Sant'Agostino, in the historic center of La Spezia: a richly decorated facade to admire from the square, since inside it's still a private home.
The marble portal has two columns with herms of curious caricatured figures. Along the ground level run friezes of shells, lions' heads and flowers; on the two main floors the windows alternate broken and inverted pediments, with Rococo decorations. In the evening the lighting brings out the friezes and colors, on the Via Gioberti side too.
The palazzo was created by joining several medieval tower houses that formed the seaward front of the city walls. In the 19th century it was home to the Oldoini, the family of Virginia, the Countess of Castiglione; then it passed to the De Nobili marquises of Vezzano, who still live there.
