- Villa Marmori
Description
Widely considered one of the most successful, albeit late, examples of floral architecture in La Spezia, the villa, more properly called Marmori-Ceretti, is located on Via XX Settembre in the heart of a residential area that developed with the city planning regulations of the late 19th century.
Its design (1923) is attributed to Franco Oliva, an architect who was very active in La Spezia during the first half of the 20th century.
The building is typical of the bourgeois dwellings of the time and testifies, with the richness of its interiors, to the taste and cultural level of its patrons.
The polychrome stained glass windows with their clear art deco style are particularly beautiful. The flooring and fixtures are an example of fine cabinetmaking. The frescoes are the work of local painter Luigi Agretti. The gate, railings and lamps are the work of Lombard craftsman Mazzucotelli.
Since 1984 the villa has been home to the Giacomo Puccini Conservatory.
